Midwest Closed Champions

Congratulations to Robert Cash and Jack Dabek who won the Boys 14s Doubles at the Midwest Closed in Okemos.  This makes back to back titles, as they won the Boys 12s Doubles last year.  They were the 10 seeds and defeated the 4 seeds in the Round of 16 and the 3 seeds in the final.  The final against Lucas Horve and Jack Randall was their closest match, and they came back to win in a 3rd set breaker after losing the 1st set, 6-7 6-4 10-5.

Level 5 Finalists

Congratulations to Stuart Brdicka and Brianna Brdicka for reaching the finals of the Midwest Level 5 in Boys 14s and Girls 16s last weekend in Cincinnati.

Tournament Champion

Congratulations to Evan Manley for winning the Boys 12s at Wickertree last weekend.  He was unseeded and won the final in 3 sets.

2014 ovta 14s Team Cup

The Ohio Valley Team coached by Bryan Nibert competed at Midwest Team cup last weekend at Purdue and finished 3rd.  The team defeated Chicago 5-4 to make the semifinals.  Jack Dabek won the clinching match in a 3rd set tiebreaker.  The team lost a close match 5-4 to Southeast Michigan in the Semis.  Jack Dabek and Robert Cash went undefeated in doubles, including defeating Denali Kitayama and Alex Wen twice.

OVTA District Doubles

RCC Juniors reached multiple semifinals and finals in the District Championships, and won the Boys 14s and Girls 10s.  Robert Cash and Jack Dabek won the Boys 14s, winning the OVTA District Championship for the 3rd straight year.  Maddie Atway won the 10s Doubles.  Paige Kompa and Sarina Xie reached the finals of the Girls 14s.  Other notable finishes include:

OVTA 16s District Champion

Congratulations to Olivia Kompa for winning the Girls 16s OVTA District Championships.  She beat the 1 seed in 3 sets in the final.
Alex Cash had a great tournament finishing 3rd, defeating 3 players seeded above her.
Ashley Tan reached the semifinals of doubles with Taylor Sprouse.

OVTA 10s Districts

Congratulations to Maddie Atway and Ty Wunderlich.  At the OVTA 10s District Championships in Cincinnati, Maddie won the 10s doubles with Eleana Yu, and finished 3rd place in Singles.
Ty got to the finals of Boys Doubles with Max Fickas.

Boys State Championships

Congratulations to C.J. Cash for reaching the Final Four of the State Doubles Championships last weekend.  He finished 3rd Place with Alex Kobelt.  The New Albany team lost an extremely close high quality match 7-6 7-6 to the State Champs from Sycamore: Nakul Narendran and Mustafa Ahmad, in which they fought off 8 match points.  They bounced back and defeated the doubles team from Mason 6-3 6-0 for 3rd Place.  Cash and Kobelt are both Juniors.

Senior Jeffrey Melvin won 1st round making 1st Team All State in Division I Singles .  He lost in 3 sets to the State Champion Nathan Griffin from St. Ignatius.  Upper Arlington also reached the finals of the OTCA State Championships, in which they were defeated 3-2 by Sycamore.

Sophomore Jacob Wareti won 1st round making 1st Team All State in Division II Singles.  Like Jeffrey, he was a Doubles State Champion last year, and fell to the State Champion this year in 3 sets, Cincinnati Country Day's Asher Hirsch.  Jacob also competed in the OTCA State Championships, reaching the Finals with Columbus Academy.
