Girls State Tournament

Congratulations to all of the qualifiers to the OHSAA Girls State Tournament last weekend in Mason.

In Division I Doubles, the freshman team of Ella Hazelbaker and Noah Mizer (Upper Arlington) fell in a tight match 6-4 in the 3rd set to Massillon Jackson.



Wendy Shi and Evelyn Holman also qualified from Upper Arlington.  They were victorious 1st round, making them 2nd team All State.  They lost in the quarters in a close match to a strong team from Westlake.



Freshman Maddie Atway from Olentangy Liberty, won the Division I State Doubles Title with Danielle Schoenly.  They didn't drop a set in the tournament and defeated O'Connor / Dhaliwal (Cincinnati Ursuline Academy) in the final.

Racquet Club Orange Ball Tournament

Last weekend the Racquet Club hosted an Orange Ball Youth Progression Tournament.
Many RCC kids participated.  Congratulations to Audrey Lu for reaching the finals, and to Aiden Tang for winning the Consolation.

Central Ohio Girls High School Districts

Congratulations to the girls from Central Ohio who qualified for Districts this past weekend.

Congratulations to State Qualifiers Maddie Atway / Danielle Schoenly, Ella Hazelbaker / Noah Mizer, and Evelyn Holman / Wendy Shi.  Hazelbaker and Mizer, both Freshman, came in as a 4 seed and defeated the 1 seed from Jerome.



The State Tournament is this Friday and Saturday in Mason at the Lindner Tennis Center.

18s Adv Team Tennis Nationals

The 18s Advanced team competed and got 5th place at Junior Team Tennis Nationals in Orlando, Florida at the USTA National Campus.  The team coached by Mike Kathary consisted of Jordan Phelps, Jack Dabek, Stu Brdicka, Colten Clark, Nikhitha Bhimireddy, Lalassa Nagireddy, and Paige Kompa.  Alex Cash, Kathleen Jones, Katherine Wang, and Jonathan Zhuravel were also on the team, but unable to go.




They swept Hawaii in the 1st match, with Nikhi and Paige winning in a 3rd set tiebreaker.  The 2nd round, they fell to the National finalists Nor Cal, with strong showings by Boys Doubles (Jordan / Colten) going 3 sets, and Mixed Doubles (Paige / Jack) going 3 sets.  After a long rain delay, they defeated Middle States, 56 - 18 to earn a spot to play for 5th through 8th.



Their next match was pushed until Sunday, where they defeated Tennessee in their closest match of the weekend 44 - 38.  They were down 9 games going into Boys Doubles and Mixed Doubles.  Paige and Stu won 6-1 6-1 and Jordan / Colten won 6-5 6-2 to get the win.

USTA National Doubles Championships

Congratulations to Robert Cash for winning the USTA Boys 16s National Doubles Championships with Andrew Zhang last weekend at the USTA National Campus in Florida.






They defeated the 1 seeds Phillip Jordan and Anders Martin in the finals 2-6 6-2 7-5.  In addition to this Gold Ball, Robert also won the Doubles at the National Clay Court Championships.



10s Adv JTT Midwest

The RCC1 10s team competed at the Midwest JTT Championships in Indianapolis.  The team included Shivum Kalyanam, Michael Wang, Nikhil Bhimireddy, Arya Chabria and Tyra Butler.

 

The young team competed well and improved each match.  They played an exciting match in the playoffs against Charleston, including tiebreak wins in mixed by Arya and Shivum and girls doubles by Arya and Tyra.
