Racquet Club Spring Open

Congratulations to Paige Kompa and Erik Britz for winning the Racquet Club Spring Open last weekend.

Paige won the Girls 16s, and Maddie Atway was a finalist.  
Erik won his 1st tournament in the Boys 12s.  Brian Pang was also the Consolation Champ.

Kevin Metka Receives Big 10 Medal of Honor

Congratulations to Kevin Metka for winning the Big 10 Medal of Honor.  This is the conference's most exclusive award and recognizes academic and athletic excellence.  Only 28 athletes earn this award each year.
Metka, a graduate of Worthington Kilbourne is majoring in Engineering and is a 2 time ITA Scholar Athlete.  He is one of 12 Buckeyes to ever win 100 Doubles Matches.  He is currently ranked #4 in the Nation in Doubles with Ralf Steinbach.  Last year Kevin competed in the closest NCAA Doubles Final of all time.  In addition to this, Kevin's accomplishments at Ohio State include:

  • Three time Academic All Big Ten honoree
  • Five time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete
  • 2014 2nd Team All Big 10
  • 2014 ITA Doubles All American
  • 2014 ITA All Tournament Team at 5 singles and 1 Doubles
  • 2013 ITA National Indoor Doubles Consolation Champ
  • Clinched 2 wins in Singles on ITA Indoor National Championship Team
  • Clinched win versus Florida saving match points on 2014 NCAA Quarterfinalist Team
  • NCAA All Tournament Team in Doubles
  • 56-17 record in Singles, 104-19 record in doubles

Congratulations to Evelyn Holman for winning the Girls 14s Racquet Club Girls Spring Open Last Weekend.

Easter Bowl Doubles Bronze Ball

Congratulations to Robert Cash, for getting 3rd place at the USTA National Spring Tournament (Easter Bowl) Boys 14s Doubles.  He played with Anand Saluja from Wisconsin.  They defeated a team from Nor Cal and Texas in the 3rd place match 9-8 in a tiebreaker.  In the quarterfinal they had a comeback win over Nathan Han and William Grant who were the 4 and 14 seeds in Singles.

CJ Cash - Loyola Greyhounds

Congratulations to New Albany senior CJ Cash who has committed to play tennis at Loyola University, a member of the Patriot League located in Baltimore, Maryland.  CJ received the Presidential Scholarship for 4 years.  He is coached by Bryan Nibert and Gabe Higgs.
CJ's accomplishments include:

  • 2014 Boys OHSAA All State
  • 2014 3rd Place OHSAA Division I Doubles
  • Eight time Midwest Championships Qualifier
  • Competitor at Boys 18s Clay Court Super Nationals
  • Midwest Open Doubles Champion
  • Midwest Sportsmanship award 
  • Formerly Ranked in top 10 USTA Midwest and top 100 Nationally
  • OVTA Davis Cup Team Captain and Sportsmanship Award

International Spring Championships ITF

Congratulations to Connor Biernat for winning a round in the qualifying of the ITF Grade 1 International Spring Championships in Carson, Ca.  Connor also competed in the Boys 16s Doubles main draw with Holden Smith.
