OSU Doubles NCAA Champions

Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola became the 1st team in NCAA history to win all 3 majors in the same year.  They defeated Carvalho and Escobar from Texas Tech in the final yesterday in Georgia 7-6 6-3.  Rola also reached the semis in Singles.  More about the story can be found at zootennis and at The Dispatch.
Stanford's Nicole Gibbs, from Cleveland, won the NCAA singles and doubles championships yesterday.

Court One Midwest Champions

Robert Cash and Jack Dabek won the 12s doubles at the Midwest Level 3 Championships this weekend in Michigan defeating the 1 seeds 8-6 in the final.  Robert also reached the semifinals of singles.
Also reaching the semifinals of doubles was Caitlyn Merzbacher (Girls 16s) and Elaine Cloern (Girls 18s).


UA OTCA State Champions

Congratulations to Upper Arlington High School for winning the OTCA State Championship.  They defeated Copley in the semis and Springboro in the final.  Jeffrey Melvin won at 2 singles in the semi, and Anthony Yang won at 3 singles in the final.

Congratulations to Colten Clark, Boys 12s Pei Seifert Midwest Level 5 Champion.

Girls GCTA Qualifier

Boys State Tournament



This weekend is the Ohio High School State Tennis Tournament. Congratulations to all the Central Ohio players who qualified.
Jeffrey Melvin and Nate Wallace (Upper Arlington) were the D1 Doubles District Champions.
Frank Kuo and Jared Judson (Dublin Jerome - coach Tyler Stephen) qualified and finished 4th in the District.
The tournament is Friday and Saturday at The O.S.U. Varsity Courts. Draws and more info are here.

Locust Pose for Tennis Elbow



This is a great stretch for tennis elbow.  It is called Locust pose, one of the 26 poses of bikram yoga.

Extend practice by 15 minutes for nutritional repair of muscles

The new ADDvantage magazine features a great article by Robert Portman and Mark Kovacs on the importance of nutrition immediately following practice or matches.  This 15 minute period immediately following training is important because  it is when the body is using energy to repair muscle damage and replenishing muscle energy stores.  This efficient time of restoring and replenishing doesn't last very long.  A carbohydrate-protein sports drink can help to restore and repair muscles, while also rehydrating.  The complete article can be read here.

GCTA 10s Qualifier

Congratulations to all the 10 and Under Boys and Girls who participated in the Area Qualifier.
In the Girls 10s, Maddie Atway defeated Ella Hazelbaker in the Finals of the Girls 10s.
Arya Dudipala reached the semis and finished 4th.  Connie Song won the Consolation and finished 5th.



In the Boys 10s, Griffin Biernat reached the semifinals and won 3rd place.  Benjamin Yan won the Consolation and finished 5th.


Midwest Level 5

Caitlyn Merzbacher reached the Consolation Final at the Midwest Level 5 Girls 16s Championships in Oberlin.  She defeated the 2 seed in the front draw 0 and 1!
Rohan Gupta reached the Consolation Semifinals at the Midwest Level 5 Boys 16s Championships in Fort Wayne.
